Reiki- What’s it all about?
What is Reiki?
Reiki means ‘universal life energy’ and is a form of spiritual healing.
Where does it come from?
It was re-discovered in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui and brought to the west by Mrs Takata, a student of Dr Usui. It is a very interesting story to read and research.
How does it work?
The practitioner acts as a channel for universal energy to flow into a client by placing their hands either onto the client themselves or into their aura. The energy then flows to where it is needed in the client.
What made you go down the route of learning Reiki?
I first learnt about Reiki many years ago. Funnily enough, I didn't initially follow the advice of those who were recommending it to me. It was probably not the right moment for me to welcome it into my life, so I dismissed the idea and even forgot about it for a long time. I later came across a Reiki course in college and instinctively signed up. I was surprised to notice how differently things can appear when we are ready to look at them.
What was the training like?
Reiki training does not follow a blueprint. Techniques and approaches vary from place to place. I attended extensive sessions, which made me only eager to seek more insight from other Reiki Masters. I felt and still feel thirst for knowledge that I can use to benefit my students and clients.
What will happen in a session for the client?
The client doesn't need to take an active part in the treatment. They will simply lie on the practitioner‘s couch or chair and relax. The practitioner lays their hands on the client's body or just off it, reaching their aura. At that point, the client will feel the Reiki energy flow through their body, channelled by the practitioner. After the session, the practitioner will provide useful and insightful feedback and aftercare to provide optimum results.
What does Reiki feel like?
The impact of Reiki varies from client to client. Some common experiences are feeling hot, cold, tingly, floaty. Some fall into a deep sleep, others feel nothing at all. However, the Reiki will be equally working.
What does Reiki help with?
Reiki can help with the majority of ailments, including chronic conditions. Reiki acts on the source of the ailment, neutralising its symptoms. It can be effective on lesser issues such as insomnia, as well as help terminally ill patients by improving their quality of life.
Can it be used on anyone?
Reiki is a non-invasive, natural treatment that can be used on anyone and at any age. There are only a few contraindications that are specific to the client and can be dealt with by a responsible practitioner.
How many treatments will one client need?
Once again, this depends on the client and their condition. Everyone is unique and has individual healing needs. Some clients only require a couple of sessions to feel more realigned whilst others will appreciate significant benefits after regular treatments, for a block period. A Reiki Practitioner will always be able to advise their client as best.
What are the best parts of being a Reiki Master Teacher?
I absolutely love seeing my clients and students' improvements. I much enjoy teaching and seeing people find the contentment and happiness they are looking for. I feel deeply accomplished when this happens. All I wish for is being able to assist people on their pathways, letting them walk in their own unique ways. My aim is helping clients help themselves. I use Reiki to encourage them to find the confidence they need to make their life ideal. Despite being qualified and experienced in other therapies, I have truly found my passion with Reiki. This wonderful discipline has transformed my own existence – it’s no wonder I get a surge of happiness seeing it change the lives of others. Unfortunately, some may not be able to access Reiki, because of the costs involved. I firmly believe that everyone should be able to access holistic therapies and this is why I offer treatments to those on a lower incomes also.
